AWAK sorbent technology is a platform technology that has the ability to revolutionize both peritoneal dialysis and haemodialysis, as it’s enabling development of ultra-portable PD & HD machines.
AWAK PD is a revolutionary concept that enables patients to adapt therapy to their lifestyle. Read more about the breakthrough sorbent technology here.
The device can also be controlled via a mobile application and is digitally connected with a web portal at the clinician’s side, which enables them to remotely manage their patients’ therapy and monitor their health, ensuring complete care management!
establishes seamless connectivity between patients & clinicians via a comprehensible digital ecosystem
The ‘O’ in nefrO is symbolic of totality and wholeness through the integrated app-portal solution which is complete and comprehensive so that all the CKD patients’ needs could be addressed in one place.
Through nefrO, we intend to create a complete circle of care and instill the idea that people suffering from CKD are not alone but part of a larger community, a community of help and hope denoted by the extending hands.
Simplifies & automates daily data logging for therapy, medication, diet, vitals, notes
Promotes adherence to care routines through reminders & alerts
Advances the quality of life through community engagement
Bridges the gap between patients and their care providers through virtual connectivity
Helps in monitoring and managing patient health status to provide “personalized medicine”
Timely interventions lead to reduced hospitalization burden
Patient prioritization on portal aids in optimizing hospital resources effectively
Enhanced remote care delivery and better involvement helps to retain patients longer
AWAK Sorbent Technology enables the miniaturization of haemodialysis systems, due to the significant reduction in the amount of fresh dialysate required per therapy.
AWAK HD sorbent will lead to significant reduction of HD dialysate needed from 120L to 4L
RO (reverse osmosis) water system will not be needed since only 4L dialysate is needed per HD treatment
Will lead to reduction in size of HD machines and overall infrastructure needed (like RO systems)
Will enable moving HD from in-centre to at-home
Sorbent is a material that binds another substance or compound to it by a physical and/or chemical reaction. It allows the binding of an extremely thin layer of molecules to its surface by chemical bonds, ionic bonds and complexion.
Our patented sorbent technology removes the uremic toxins from the spent dialysate and regenerates fresh dialysate in real-time.
In AWAK PD therapy, the uremic-toxin-laden dialysate from the patient’s body passes through an Adsorber system, called the Sorbent and then regenerated dialysate is sent back to the patient. During each recirculation, an integrated infusion system reconstitutes the concentrations of calcium and magnesium to the desired levels as well as adds glucose to compensate for the dilution and absorbed glucose by the patient
The continuous recirculation of dialysate provides the patient a continuous Tidal PD treatment with up to 14-18 L of additional fresh dialysate per treatment using only starting 2L dialysate.
In case of AWAK HD therapy, our sorbent regenerates the spent dialysate from the HD machines. We have been successful in reducing the amount of HD solution required per session from 120L (in case of current HD systems) to only 4L. A ground-breaking feat!
